 About the Course

Our flexible and accessible General Practice Health Care Support Worker (HCSW) Training Programme is designed by experienced General Practice Nurses (GPNs) and HCSWs. The programme is designed for those that are planning to work as an HCSW in General Practice for the first time or for those who are switching from another healthcare setting. The course contains the Care Certificate Standards.

Upon successful completion of the course, students will be awarded the Care Certificate Standards alongside a Certificate of Completion from Londonwide LMCs.

There are ten online modules covering:

  • Working in General Practice
  • Professional Issues
  • Infection Control
  • Clinical Skills Training
  • Long-term Conditions
  • Health Promotion
  • Safeguarding
  • Administration of Medicine
  • Wound Care
  • Emergency Situations

Included in the programme are two full-day workshops led by experienced facilitators, who will support your progression through the units.

The cost of the programme, including the two workshops and dedicated support, is £650 plus VAT.

Entry Requirements

To be eligible for this programme, you must meet these criteria:

  • Be employed or have placement time within a practice with an appropriate contract/agreement
  • Be supported within the practice by being given time to attend both taught days
  • Be supported within the practice by being assigned an experienced practice nurse mentor who can sign off the competency document
  • Have a good standard of written English
