About the Course

This unique course has been written by senior practising practice managers, general practitioners and topic specialists and will be taught by practice manager educators. The content of the course covers everything a practice manager needs to know; including human resources, financial planning, data protection and much more.

There are eleven online modules covering:

  • Working in General Practice, Past, Present and Future
  • The Manager and Their Practice
  • Managing People and Self-management
  • Overview of Practice Finance
  • Regulation and Compliance in General Practice
  • Premises – Financial Complexities and Legal Obligations
  • Clinical Governance and Safeguarding
  • Service Delivery – a Climate of finite Resources
  • The Practice-Patient Interface
  • Training Practices
  • Facilitating and Supporting Practice Development

Entry Requirements

To be eligible for this programme, you must meet these criteria:

  • Are a practice manager, a manager who wishes to work in general practice or someone within general practice aspiring to the role of practice manager for example an assistant practice manager or a senior receptionist?
  • Have an ability to reflect on personal practice
  • Are motivated to pursue a career in general practice
  • Have access to a mentor who is currently working in general practice as a practice manager
  • Have access to email and can provide the blended learning programme manager with a reliable email address, together with an alternative email address where possible.

 About the Course

Our flexible and accessible General Practice Health Care Support Worker (HCSW) Training Programme is designed by experienced General Practice Nurses (GPNs) and HCSWs. The programme is designed for those that are planning to work as an HCSW in General Practice for the first time or for those who are switching from another healthcare setting.

There are ten online modules covering:

  • Professional Issues
  • Infection Control
  • Clinical Skills Training
  • Long-term Conditions
  • Health Promotion
  • Safeguarding
  • Administration of Medicine
  • Wound Care
  • Emergency Situations

Included in the programme are two full-day workshops led by experienced facilitators, who will support your progression through the units. View available workshops here.

The cost of the programme, including the two workshops and dedicated support, is £850 plus VAT.

Entry Requirements

To be eligible for this programme, you must meet these criteria:

  • Be employed or have placement time within a practice with an appropriate contract/agreement
  • Be supported within the practice by being given time to attend both taught days
  • Be supported within the practice by being assigned an experienced practice nurse mentor who can sign off the competency document
  • Have a good standard of written English

The General Practice Nurse Training Programme

About the Course

This online programme is an essential resource for any nurse new to general practice, as well as a useful refresher generally. It provides introductory level learning resources and self-assessment questionnaires across a range of topics, covering baseline skills for nursing in general practice. It represents the building blocks of an educational pathway to support a career in general practice nursing.

Included in the programme are two full-day workshops led by experienced practice nurse facilitators, who will support your progression through the units. View available workshops.

The cost of the programme, including the two workshops and dedicated support, is £850 plus VAT.

The programme will help you to identify learning needs appropriate to your role in practice and direct you to further opportunities for continued professional development. The programme is written by practice nurses for practice nurses, with the aim of being totally relevant and user-friendly.

Londonwide LMCs have produced guidance regarding changes to the Code and introduction of revalidation for nurses from April 2016. This important guidance is for use by all nurses as well as GP principals and practice managers.
